A Teen Just Trying To Figure It Out
“Just be Stevie Nicks”. What do you think that means?
Let's Talk...
Lately I have become fascinated with what is going on in the minds of young women. I talk to my granddaughters, read articles written by young women who are expressing what’s important in their lives and it blows me away how they can be so open and straight forward. To be so “OK” with not knowing it all and embracing this place in their lives, is wonderful.
I look back to when I was 15 or 16 and try to remember what was occupying my mind; high school, playing field hockey, my girl friends, my soon to be boyfriends, volunteering, . . . . . Each one of those events had a huge impact on what I would become as a woman. In so many ways my life was so simple compared to how girls grow up now; so much information, competition from within and out, so much, so much.
Flash forward 50 years and step into the flats of a 15 year old: she has everything at her fingertips with the Internet as her world. She may have all this information, but she is still a young woman on the cusp of what she will become. She’s scared but itsn’t afraid to say it, she’s concerned and has the Internet at her hands to help inform her on whatever topic she chooses.
Finally I would like to introduce you to Tavi Gevinson. Just watch this short video and get an idea of what goes on in the mind of a 15-year old girl who is already building her life.
