End the Abuse
The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) is a United States federal law signed by President Bill Clinton on September 13, 1994. The Act provided $1.6 billion toward investigation and prosecution of violent crimes against women, imposed automatic and mandatory restitution on those convicted, and allowed civil redress in cases prosecutors chose to leave unprosecuted. The Act also established the Office on Violence Against Women within the Department of Justice.

I’m sending you this information in hopes that you will let your voice be heard and sign a petition to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. At a time when fiscal cutting is at an all time high, many protective agencies will lose their funding and we will go back to a time when there were no resources, education or programs to help women make a change in their lives. We just can’t go back.
There are a number of things that you can do to help women in your community and around the world:
Educate yourself, your family and friends about the myths of Domestic Violence.
If you sense something is wrong with a loved one or friend, reach out to her/him.
If you witness abuse, report it immediately to the police. Don’t turn away.
Support your local non-profits with a donation or an offer to volunteer.
Be aware of legislation that has the potential of breaking down the existing laws.
Let your elected officials know that you support the rights of women.
I know you’ll do whatever you can. I like to think that every woman who walks away from an abusive situation is a “Woman in Motion” and that the ones who assist her are as well–women in motion and/or men in motion.
